Phasecraft, a British quantum computing software company, plans to establish its U.S. headquarters in Arlington County and create 19 new jobs through a $113,000 investment, Governor Abigail Spanberger announced.
Phasecraft develops algorithms for quantum computers with applications in materials simulation, chemical reaction modeling, and optimization. The company was founded by researchers from the United Kingdom's quantum science community.
The company has been working with federal agencies including the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) and the Advanced Research Projects Agency–Energy (ARPA-E). Phasecraft joined DARPA's Quantum Benchmarking Initiative program to help assess whether utility-scale quantum computing is possible by 2033, and was selected for ARPA-E's Quantum Computing for Computational Chemistry program to develop quantum algorithms for discovering new advanced catalysts for the energy sector.
Phasecraft cited Virginia's skilled workforce, world-class research universities, and strategic location near federal agencies as key factors in choosing Arlington for its U.S. footprint. Phasecraft Cofounder and CEO Ashley Montanaro said, "We're thrilled to now call Virginia home as the company continues to grow rapidly."
Virginia ranks third in CNBC's "America's Top States for Business" rankings. Since taking office, Governor Spanberger has announced more than $5 billion in new business investment and more than 3,200 new jobs across the Commonwealth.
