Texas added 159,000 jobs in the past year, outpacing national trends

State's 1.1% annual job growth rate topped national pace by 0.7 percentage points.

Texas added 159,000 nonfarm jobs between August 2025 and August 2026, surpassing national job growth rates, according to data from the Texas Workforce Commission and the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The state's workforce grew by 1.1% during the 12-month period, outpacing national annual job growth by 0.7 percentage points.

The Leisure and Hospitality industry led private sector growth in August with 4,900 new jobs. Professional and Business Services added 4,500 jobs, while Manufacturing added 2,200.

Texas's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 4.4% in August, down from 4.5% in the previous month, according to the Comptroller of Public Accounts.
